Opening Keynote Address -- Roy Firestone, ESPN

“The best interviewer in the business” is how
Sports Illustrated described Roy Firestone.
One of America’s most versatile talents, he is
recognized for his multiple abilities as an interviewer,
journalist, commentator and stage
performer. Critically acclaimed for his work
in broadcast journalism, Firestone has won
six Emmy Awards and two ACE Awards for
Cable Excellence. He has interviewed more
than three thousand people, including nearly
every major sports figure. Firestone was host of ESPN’s SportsLook
(1980-90) and is currently host of Up Close Prime Time, HDNet Face To
Face With Roy Firestone and AOL’s Time Out With Roy Firestone.
Exhibitor Roundtables
9:00 a.m. – 12:40 p.m.
Concurrent sessions every 30 minutes featuring MFMA exhibitors
addressing industry issues that include learning about new or existing
products, product maintenance, industry regulations and manufacturer
certification programs. Since these sessions run concurrently, they allow
attendees the opportunity to attend as many sessions as possible.
Those MFMA exhibitors scheduled to conduct sessions include: Floor
Style Products, Inc., PoloPlaz, Simon Signs Inc., Bona Kemi, Praters
Incorporated and Powernail Company. Each exhibitor conducting sessions
will be giving away door prizes at the evening reception. Roundtable
session attendees will be asked to turn in a business card at the
end of each session, so remember to bring plenty of business cards.

HVAC Issues
Michael Ubriaco, Johnson Controls

Ever have expansion or contraction issues on a floor you installed
that you feel were the result of improper environmental conditions?
HVAC systems are among the largest energy consumers in schools.
The choice and design of the HVAC system can also affect many other
high performance goals, including water consumption, acoustics and
the environmental conditions inside the gymnasium. Michael Ubriaco
of Johnson Controls will discuss different types of air conditioners, the
Clean Air Act as it affects indoor air exchange, limitations of HVAC systems
found in gymnasiums and how HVAC adds or removes humidity.
Michael is a mechanical engineer with over 24 years of experience
working in commercial buildings on HVAC and other building systems.
He has worked solely for Johnson Controls, a Fortune 100 global
company that is over 100 years old and has over 140,000 employees.
Johnson Controls Building Efficiency group is a leading supplier of
HVAC Equipment, sold under the York International brand name, and is
the industry leader in creating smart building environments that are efficient,
safe and sustainable. Michael has been involved in many school
construction and retrofit projects over his career and is currently the
Regional Installation Manager for the Central United States.
Installation Roundtables
9:35 a.m. – Noon
Roundtable presentations and discussions will focus on the installation
issues you want addressed. Problems, concerns and real-world
situations will be discussed in small groups so all attendees can
provide ideas and solutions. Each group will have moderators and manufacturers’ representatives. Topic areas for roundtable discussions
will include overall business management issues, MFMA Accreditation,
installation methods and techniques. Attendees will be assigned
roundtable locations based on mill supplier.
